Dungeon Lootr Forge Guide — Upgrade, Reforge and Gear Score

How the Forge works: upgrade levels and PEN, reforge stone rules, protection scrolls, crafting class items, affix priority, and the Update 1.5 Dismantle and Appraisal systems.

The Forge NPC in the lobby (by the training grounds) is where gear becomes endgame gear. Five tabs — Upgrade, Reforge, Protect, Enhance and Crafting — plus the Update 1.5 Dismantle and Appraisal systems cover the entire gear economy. This guide walks each one and ends with the affix priority that actually decides your damage.

Upgrade: levels and PEN

Upgrading raises an item's level and Gear Score using materials and Coins: early tiers eat Iron Scrap and Gold Ore, later tiers Infernal Ore and rarity-graded Ingots plus Forge Stones.

  • Levels run +1 through +15, then PRI, DUO, TRI, TET, PEN (PEN is the cap).
  • Failures above +12 drop the item one level (e.g. 12 → 11). There is no published success-rate table — treat any specific percentage you see as an estimate.

Reforge: rerolling affixes

Reforge rerolls every affix on the item — your good lines too. Two rules from the developer changelog are firm:

  • Reforging gear above +15 costs 2 Reforge Stones per attempt.
  • Reforge Stones drop in Boss Rush at 5% / 15% / 30% per boss depending on its state (normal / empowered / enraged), and codes hand them out regularly.

Community testing describes reforge as gambling that eats Coins fast — one recorded session spent 10 Coins-per-attempt at a low tier and far more later. Reroll only when the item's other lines justify it.

Protect and Enhance

  • Protect — a Protection Scroll prevents the level-loss penalty on a failed upgrade (it's consumed even on success). Scrolls come from Challenge Dungeon rewards.
  • Enhance — boosts the success chance of your next upgrade attempt. Use it for the PRI→TET stretch where failures hurt.

Crafting: class items and the relic set

The Crafting tab makes ingots, cosmetics and — most importantly — three class items:

The endgame relic set (King's Crown, Living Armor, Supernova Ring) also crafts here from Exotic Essence, Celestial Ore and Relic Shattered Armor family materials — the Supernova Ring recipe is the best documented (12x Celestial Ore + 15x Exotic Essence + 1x Exotic Ingot).

Gear Score and what it actually measures

Gear Score sums your worn, upgraded gear and class. It is a progression meter, not a hidden matchmaking value — and a higher number does not mean more damage by itself. Nerdschalk demonstrated that an affix-less Living Armor added exactly nothing to a damage sheet: affixes carry the build, so only upgrade gear you're wearing, with lines worth keeping.

Affix priority (where damage comes from)

Community consensus, in order:

  1. Your archetype's damage type (physical / ranged / magic)
  2. Critical Damage
  3. Skill Damage
  4. Attack Speed
  5. Armor Shred ("the boss killer outright")

Defensive and non-scaling lines are reforge fodder on damage pieces. Rings carry the most offensive lines per slot — upgrade rings first. See the stats guide for how these interact with base stats.

Update 1.5 systems

  • Dismantle — break down gear to recover ~40% of its upgrade materials as ingots (a King's Crown returns 3 Exotic Ingots; a +15 Celestial ring returns 16). This killed the "hoard old gear" habit: dismantle anything replaced.
  • Appraisal — spend Stars to reroll an item's base stats. Source descriptions of the exact flow differ; check the NPC in-game.

Warnings worth money

  • Auto Forge gamepass (99 Robux) forges continuously until materials run out — it does not stop on failure. The free "Skip Forge animation" toggle is unrelated.
  • VIP gamepass lists +5% forge success chance.
  • The Forge refuses to run at a nearly-full inventory, and chest loot that overflows the ~50-item cap gets deleted — clean your bags first.

Putting it together

  1. Upgrade only worn gear with good affix lines, rings first.
  2. Push to +15 with Protect/Enhance support; beyond that, budget Reforge Stones at 2 per attempt.
  3. Reforge only pieces whose other lines are worth locking in.
  4. Dismantle everything you replace.

For what to build toward, the Build Finder outputs gear priorities per class and goal, and the farming guide covers gathering the materials.
